As it is with anything, living and leading from within requires continuous commitment and dedication, followed by taking daily steps to stay connected to your internal world. And in a world that is so much about the ‘external’ stuff, this can be a huge challenge.

 

There are three key ways to commit to living and leading from within and to help you build your spiritual muscles.

These are:

 

  • Contemplation
  • Meditation, and
  • Prayer

 

These three actions are what you can use to ‘tone up’ and ‘show up’, and create an external world that reflects a more aligned and stress-free internal world.

All three steps help you unite your mind, body, and soul, to relieve fear and suffering, and guide you towards freedom, fulfilment, and even, fun!

 

Why should you build your spiritual muscles?

Well, because you want to be happy right?

You want to feel energised, supported, and loved?

Because you know there’s more to life than just working 9-5, fighting your way through traffic, and putting up with toxic people in your life.

 

Really, it comes down to knowing there’s more.

There’s so much more than this. You can feel it.

You’re sensitive to it.

You’re sensitive to the world, to what’s happening to the people around you, and to what’s happening within you.

 

There’s no doubt about it, you need spiritual stamina to live in the light and lead from within.

Even as a writer I try not  to get too attached to words. For me, I focus on the intention behind them as I believe that is what has the greater impact.

In University I studied linguistics as part of my psychology degree, and later as a child therapist I had to throw out everything I thought I knew and learn how to communicate non-verbally with many of the children I worked with.

This is when I realised how powerful intention and energy are in terms of how we relate to and connect with others.

As a result I’ve become more and more aware of the intention behind my words (a brilliant practice in mindfulness and being present in the moment) and the impact that my words have.

In this video I talk about a simple experiment I created to reduce the struggle I felt when faced with challenges. It’s so simple, but it has had a profound affect on my perception and therefore how I respond to the situation.

It has also affected how I communicate with others, particularly when offering support and advice. This new approach allows them to reach within themselves to find an answer that provides them with more comfort, clarity, and confidence.

My friend,

You were born to lead.

You were born to lead millions of people, hundreds, or a lucky few.

Or… perhaps you were born to lead one person – a very lucky one.

Or maybe, just maybe, you were born to lead yourself.  You were born to follow the wisdom of your own heart and mind, and blaze a trail that reveals itself only as you courageously walk along it.

This is what I call leading from within, and it is what I deeply believe in, consistently commit to, and teach others how to do.

Leading from within empowers you to make wise decisions and act based on a deeper understanding and knowing.

This kind of leadership, once you’re tuned into it, flows easily. It’s not forced, aggressive or controlling. It produces positive results, and can help you balance your relationships, both personally and professionally. You become a magnet, and easily attract the people and resources you need in order to lead and live a fun and fulfilling life.

If you feel called to lead in some way, it’s important your leadership comes not from ego, but from sharing your gifts and story with the world. It needs to come from the soul, from a deep place of wanting to empower others and affect positive change.

Today’s topic came out of my own struggle the last couple of weeks.  I’ve been falling into old habits, sabotaging my own growth and success, and applying what I know to overcome it.  I’ve been able to move through the struggle and step into my power to choose.

So let’s talk about this Final 5.

5 pounds.

5 more tasks to complete.

5 more things to do that will totally transform your life and deeply fulfil you.

5% more “stuff” to move through, and you’ll be there.  In it.  Your dream life.

BUT YOU WON’T DO THEM.  IT DOESN’T HAPPEN.  YOU CAN’T SHIFT IT.

You’re taking action and moving towards living a happier, healthier life.

You’re ahead of the game in many ways and a lot further along the path than most.

You know you’ve got what it takes.

You know you can beat this thing.  You CAN change.  You ARE already, and you’ve already done so well.

And there it is.

You’ve already done so well… and what usually follows is… loosen up honey… take it easy honey… it’s enough now.

What happened when I let it all go and went with the flow.

Going with the flow for me, means being totally in tune with my own flow.

Our energy is changing all the time, and there is a natural flow, a natural cycle that reveals itself if we open up to it.

 

What I’ve been noticing lately is how challenging it is to be in my own flow in a world where everything is flowing, and not always in the same way I am.

In my work especially, I feel pressure to get things done and push harder, even on the days I really feel like sitting on the sofa with a cup of tea and staring into space.

 

On the flip side, this past week I’ve had ridiculous amounts of energy.  I been waking up with a spring in my step, despite hardly sleeping and working late.

There was a part of me that thought I should “try” to create some balance.  That I should back away from the high energy.

I was scared I would burn out. I was scared it wouldn’t last, and I really felt like I should try to “control” it more.

Yes, of course.  It was best to “tame” it, to calm down, take it easy, and not dive deep into it.

 

What is it about intense energy/emotion that we fear so much?

Everyone else fears it. I even feared it myself.

It’s like it shouldn’t be there. It feels…..

unpredictable.

We want it, well we say we do, but when we get it we want to turn back, we want to stay within the walls of our comfort zone.

Is it really THAT comfortable living at half-mast?

 

If we were to run with it, the fast-paced, passion-fuelled energy, we’ll be judged.

Reckless.

Not taking care of herself.

Wild.

Too “out-there”.

You know what I mean?

 

And what if we don’t? We don’t run with it.

What if we don’t go with the flow when it comes?

Stretching into Stillness.

Stillness is both one of our most desired and most feared things in the world.

We crave stillness.

We crave it like crazy.

We just want a break, a chance to take a breath and sit still for a second.

BUT… when we have the chance to, we run from it and get busy doing, well, anything.

Why? Because we’re not used to it. It feels really uncomfortable and awkward.

For me, I know I just feel guilty sometimes. I know it sounds crazy, but I feel like I’m being selfish if I rest, like there’s too many other things I should be doing.

For the past decade I have journeyed towards stretching into stillness. And by stretching, I mean it’s literally been a stretch for me.

It’s been a huge challenge, and required a lot of un-learning, a deep commitment, and a strong willingness to explore my own discomfort and fear.

What I’ve come to realise is stillness of the mind is what is needed more than anything. We know when we’re physically moving and expending energy, but most of us are unaware of how much mental movement is going on. We’re always thinking. Judging. Questioning. Analysing. And this is using up so much of our energy.

The first step however, is to physically stretch into stillness. I personally love to practice yoga. I stretch, bend, and twist my body, and expel a lot of the energy I have that would otherwise be scattered around during my day on a never-ending to-do list and a lot of unfinished tasks. Read More

Hey gorgeous!

This week has been a crazy one for me!

My husband and I have moved into our new home and while I love building a life within it’s walls I’ve been struggling to keep all my balls in the air, so to speak.  I’ve got so many things on the go.

I’ve been working on my book Soul in the City for what feels like forever now, and I finally feel like it’s almost ready to go out into the world.

This has been a massive stretch for me.

I’ve fought off a lot of resistance and had to dig deep to bring this book to life.

My perfectionist streak has reared it’s head one too many times, and I’ve had to be mindful of self-sabotage throughout the whole process.  It’s been a massive stretch, but one that I needed.

Speaking of being stretched, it’s the topic of this week’s v-log.  I really feel 2015 for both of us, is going to be a year of stretching ourselves.

What’s Your Big Fear? The one that has a hold on you.

What’s your BIG fear? I mean really. What is it that scares the life out of you? It stops you in your tracks, you freeze up, close up, or run for cover.

What is it?

What is that fear?

The one that has a hold on you.

 

You probably don’t even know what it is. You have a lot of small fears, and those you could reel off to me without a problem. Those fears you can face. Because it’s easier. It’s easier to face those fears than face your really BIG fear.

You cover up your big fear in a bunch of small fears, to validate having a fear, but to avoid looking at the real fear too closely.

What is it about it that shakes you to your core?

What is it about that fear that makes you feel small, powerless, helpless?

What is your BIG fear?

What is it deep down that has a hold on you?

It makes you sick from the inside to even acknowledge it’s there.

You pipe up with all that resistance and defiance, and you probably want to scream at me right now, or simply dismiss me as someone who’s trying to stir up sh*t, stir up all that unnecessary stuff.
